Pregnancy and birth

Pregnancy, and the arrival of a new baby, can evoke a range of emotions in birthing parents, partners, siblings, and other family members.

Pregnancy itself can bring up unresolved feelings from your own experiences of being parented. You may also find yourself navigating feelings of anxiety, stress and overwhelm about what pregnancy and birth will be like for you, especially when your hopes don’t align with your reality.

Some expectant parents may also be navigating unexpected medical challenges (e.g. undergoing IVF, your baby being antenatally diagnosed with a medical condition), or you may be struggling with the emotional impact of perinatal loss.

We can offer psychological support for individuals, couples, and families affected by a range of issues, including:

  • Managing strong emotions during pregnancy (such as antenatal depression, anxiety or stress)

  • Tokophobia (fear of birth)

  • Birth trauma

  • Preparing for birth and the postnatal period

  • Managing unexpected medical issues during pregnancy (for either the birthing parent and/or baby)

  • Pregnancy following fertility challenges

  • Perinatal loss (including miscarriage and stillbirth)
